1 of 1, hand crafted heavyweight cotton joggers in azure blue, with white cotton fleece cloud motifs. This design takes inspiration from the Temple of Azure Clouds (碧云寺) outside Beijing, and the stylized cloud patterns, known as "kumo" in Japan and "yunwen" in China, that have adorned the robes of monks and scholars for centuries.

The pants are made from 100% organic heavyweight cotton. The back pocket shows the Ancient Chinese seal script character for "cloud".

Background

The Temple of Azure Clouds was founded in Beijing in the 14th century. It has been a place of worship, an imperial retreat, and a resting place for revolutionaries.

The clouds depicted on the pants are found in both Chinese and Japanese art. Clouds () serve as a bridge between the mortal world and the divine. They are the pedestals upon which gods and immortals travel, the boundary between the mundane and the enlightened.

In China, cloud patterns, or "yunwen," are among the oldest continuous motifs in art, symbolizing good fortune, prosperity, and the "cloud heaven" of the Daoist immortals. The flowing, layered clouds seen in Buddhist grottoes and imperial court paintings represent the life giving force of chi and the celestial realm.

In Japan, "kumo" patterns are equally revered, often stylized into geometric bands or soft, billowing forms seen in kimono and temple architecture. They represent the transient, the ethereal, and the divine presence that descends from the heavens to bless the earth.
